In our research and education
programs we combine power electronics with analog and mixed-signal IC design,
which give us a unique capability among university research groups.
Since it was founded in 1983, the power electronics group at the University of Colorado has maintained a tradition of innovative design-oriented and application-driven research.
The group grew into the industry-sponsored Colorado Power
Electronics Center (CoPEC) in 1999. CoPEC activities now span the range of
power management applications from ultra-low-power energy scavenging
devices, biosensors, high-efficiency converters for portable battery-operated systems, to tens, hundreds or thousands of watts for wireless, computer, aerospace, lighting, and medical applications, to hundreds
of kilowatts for wind power generation systems. These activities are based on our experience in the technical areas of converter technologies, converter modeling and control, and
magnetics, as well as in analog and mixed-signal IC design
techniques.
Center activities include:
- Graduate research projects jointly directed by center sponsors and center faculty
- Internship program
- Technology transfer
- Continuing education
- Annual meeting
