Renewable sources and efficient electrical energy systems

A new course, first offered in Spring 2008. This course is an introduction to present and future electrical power systems, including renewable power sources, interface to the utility grid, and efficient utilization of power. The major topics covered are:

  • The nation's electrical power system
  • Photovoltaic power systems
  • Wind power systems
  • Hybrid and electric vehicles
  • Efficiency: buildings, lighting, HVAC, computer systems

This course is open to engineering, science, and other technical majors. Prerequisite PHYS2020 General Physics 2, or equivalent, or corequisite ECEN2250 Circuits and Electronics 1.
