International Graduate Student Pre-Application


Because of the different standards among foreign universities and the fact that applying to an American university is a costly and time-consuming task, you should answer the following questions before requesting an application. Please be advised that you must submit a non-refundable application fee of $70 along with your completed application. This fee cannot be waived. Therefore, if you can honestly answer all questions with 'yes,' then you should proceed to apply. If not, please consider saving both your time and money.

  1. Do you have certification of first-class standing from your undergraduate institution, or did you earn at least a B average in all examinations?

  2. Have you taken the TOEFL examination and earned a score of at least 600 (paper-based) or 250 (computerized)?

  3. Have you taken the GRE? (Average scores for international applicants admitted to our program are 70% verbal, 85% quantitative, and 88% analytical on the old 800-point scale or 67% on the new 6-point scale.)

  4. Can you supply letters of recommendation from at least three professors, practicing engineers, or other highly qualified people?

  5. Are you able to provide for your living expenses for the entire period of residence at the University of Colorado? (Those expenses are currently estimated to be $30,000 per year. A Master's degree usually takes two years to obtain and a Ph.D. takes four to five years.)
