ECEN 5616 - Optoelectronic System Design

3 credit hours

Catalog Description: This course treats optics, optical systems, and electro-optics devices with the goal of integrating optical and electro-optical devices into opto-electronic systems. System design will be covered with emphasis given to resolution, field of view, signal-to-noise ratio, speed of operation, and other system constraints.

Prerequisites: ECEN 3400, Electromagnetic Fields and Waves, and ECEN 4242, Communication Theory

Textbook:

Goals: To impart to the student the necessary skills to incorporate devices into functional opto-electronic systems.

Topics:

  1. Review of reflection, refraction.
  2. Diffraction.
  3. Interference.
  4. Image forming systems (design).
  5. Fourier optics systems (design).
  6. Radiometry.
  7. Sources.
  8. Detectors and receivers design.
  9. Opto-electronic system design.
